we live two blocks from asu’s campus. so far, i’ve only ventured into “our” little corner of campus, but i’ve grown rather fond of the bare concrete, right angles, and desert landscaping around the asu art museum. especially right around dusk, the way that light hits the concrete walls, it just warms them up, and makes cold concrete come to life. all of the aloes are blooming right now. it’s pretty incredible. i’ve had aloe plants my whole life and never have my plants come to life with these tall red blooms. but here, in their homeland, my aloes are happily blooming their hearts out.
